On offense it's Quarterbacks who run the show but on defense it's the Shutdown Corners who have become the foundation of the T1ML defenses with the explosion of the passing attacks this year. Deion Sanders defined the term shutdown corner because of his ability to essentially cut off his entire side of the field. Teams learned very quickly that testing Primetime came at a severe risk and eventually realized that avoiding him was the wise choice. Right now corners are arguably the hardest position to trade for meaning that these upcoming rookies may be the most valuable picks. Teams in need of some aerial lock-down: San Diego (All of their CB's are #2 at best), Green Bay (McNeil is a good start), St. Louis (Yeah...) Seattle (Looking for a true #1), Pittsburgh (Looking for some youth), Tennessee (See Pittsburgh), Minnesota (Arena & Spievey are great #2 & #3 CB's) Chicago (Get Bowman some help), Cincinnati (Need a true #1) and Tampa Bay (Why was Talib moved?).
1) Minnesota CB Matthew Kato heads this bunch of CB's as he is considered to have the highest ceiling out of all the corners. His speed (97) will have everyone drooling along with good leaping (89) and zone coverage (89). Kato still needs to work on his man coverage (74) but he's very coach-able (A POT) so he'll adjust and assume his position as one of the top CB's in T1ML.
2) North Texas Davasia Burton is the 2nd CB but it's clear that he's not pro ready coming out of college. Burton is average in man (73) and weak in zone (61) and struggles against complex route combination's (45 AWR). Despite those flaws the draft is very thin at the position and T1ML is in need of CB's. Excellent potential has him compared to the top 3 CB's in the league so the patience will certainly pay off.
3) Boise State CB DeJuan Gilbert is the final CB worth drafting in the top rounds and he'll be even more of a project then Burton. Burton struggles at coverage (59, 69) and is probably better suited to come in at Dime or Quarter early in his career. His good speed will allow him to be a return guy until he gets the hang of actually playing CB but his B potential shoots him above the remaining class.
*Note* C potentials are not profiled here and this group of CB's is essentially the reason why. Three CB's are coming out with fantastic stats but at mid 70's overall are pretty much capped out, which is essentially what you do NOT want with a high draft choice. Take them at your own risk!
